Program Description

Summer Reading Activities

Summer Reading Activities are "extras" - programs, presentations, and special events hosted by the library - designed to complement the reading goals of our annual summer reading challenges.  Participating in these special programs earns additional badges in Beanstack and additional tickets for the ticket drawing prizes!

For Secret Code Word activities, be sure to look for the sign with the secret code word or ask a library staff member during the program!

Meet Tiger!

Tiger is our Summer Reading Activity mascot!  Any time you see Tiger on something advertising a Read, Renew, Repeat event or program, it means that event will give you additional badges and tickets!

A cartoon tiger is standing on his hind legs. He is wearing a t-shirt and a ball cap and holding a shovel.

Here they come . . . Crawling up the trees . . .

The songs of periodical cicadas will soon fill the air in central Illinois.  This year two broods will be emerging throughout much of the state at the same time.  This is the first time this has happened since 1803, and it won’t happen again until 2245!   Join the University of Illinois Extension as we explore these mysterious creatures by learning about their body parts and lifecycle, creating art with their exoskeletons, and participating in a cicada calling contest.
