Summer Reading Activities
Summer Reading Activities are "extras" - programs, presentations, and special events hosted by the library - designed to complement the reading goals of our annual summer reading challenges. Participating in these special programs earns additional badges in Beanstack and additional tickets for the ticket drawing prizes!
For Secret Code Word activities, be sure to look for the sign with the secret code word or ask a library staff member during the program!
Meet Tiger!
Tiger is our Summer Reading Activity mascot! Any time you see Tiger on something advertising a Read, Renew, Repeat event or program, it means that event will give you additional badges and tickets!

Voices from the Forest focuses on sound as a rewarding way to understand and enjoy the natural world around us. Many of our Illinois wildlife use vocalizations and other sounds to communicate with each other, with other types of animals, and, occasionally, with people – but how can we tell what they’re trying to say? We’re excited to solve some of these neat auditory mysteries!
A naturalist from Forest Park Nature Center will bring the forest soundscape to life through activities, artifacts, and live animal encounters. We understand that not everyone has the ability to hear sounds on the same level, so our program will incorporate plenty of ways to stay engaged by looking at and touching different natural objects.
