Program Description

Summer Reading Activities

Summer Reading Activities are "extras" - programs, presentations, and special events hosted by the library - designed to complement the reading goals of our annual summer reading challenges.  Participating in these special programs earns additional badges in Beanstack and additional tickets for the ticket drawing prizes!

For Secret Code Word activities, be sure to look for the sign with the secret code word or ask a library staff member during the program!

Meet Tiger!

Tiger is our Summer Reading Activity mascot!  Any time you see Tiger on something advertising a Read, Renew, Repeat event or program, it means that event will give you additional badges and tickets!

A cartoon tiger is standing on his hind legs. He is wearing a t-shirt and a ball cap and holding a shovel.

Instrument Petting Zoo

Have you ever wanted to try out an instrument?  Here's your chance!  See how the instruments work and what they sound like.  Many people are unaware that string instruments come in various sizes for musicians of all ages.  The Suzuki School of Music will be bringing violins, violas, and cellos in a variety of sizes for a "hands-on" afternoon!

About the Youth Music Illinois Suzuki School of Music

Youth Music Illinois opened the Suzuki School of Music in January 2020 to expand its thorough and rigorous music program to students of all ages and abilities.  The Youth Music Illinois Suzuki School of Music offers weekly group and private lessons to students of any age on violin, viola, and cello.  To showcase the skills they build in lessons, students have the opportunity to play in recitals and concerts throughout the year.  Teachers equip parents and guardians to help their children in practicing at home.  While children of all ages are welcome to apply, Youth Music Illinois recommends students be at least 4 years of age.
