Program Description
Summer Reading Activities
Summer Reading Activities are "extras" - programs, presentations, and special events hosted by the library - designed to complement the reading goals of our annual summer reading challenges. Participating in these special programs earns additional badges in Beanstack and additional tickets for the ticket drawing prizes!
For Secret Code Word activities, be sure to look for the sign with the secret code word or ask a library staff member during the program!
Meet Tiger!
Tiger is our Summer Reading Activity mascot! Any time you see Tiger on something advertising a Read, Renew, Repeat event or program, it means that event will give you additional badges and tickets!
Event Details
What do you do with your banana peels? 24% of landfill content nationwide is food waste, including trimmings and uneaten food. If you throw food in the trash, it winds up in the local landfill, trapped under layers of other garbage, unable to decompose.
Instead of throwing fruit and vegetable scraps in the garbage, you can mix them into your raked leaves and grass clippings to make compost for the garden! Join University of Illinois Master Gardener Gretchen Strauch to learn how to start composting and different ways to put food waste to good use.
Attend this event to earn your From Garbage to Gold activity badge and extra tickets!
This program is presented in cooperation with the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener program.
