Purpose of Meeting

Little Roots 2022 Kick-Off Event!

Little Roots is fun, hands-on program designed to get 5- to 7-year-olds excited about gardening!

A bright, kid-friendly gardening calendar guides children and their adult helpers in growing 7 different plants from seed to harvest.  The calendar provides weekly activities, from May through September, that encourage junior growers in observing the world around them, researching horticulture basics, and caring for their plants.  Participants will receive seeds (radish, pumpkin, zinnia, sunflower, basil), tomato & pepper transplants, a gardening calendar, and supplemental gardening resources.  Adults will be invited to join a private Facebook group to receive weekly tips, videos, and gardening activities.

Youth gardeners (Cloverbuds) may also choose to participate in various showcase opportunities (optional) throughout the growing season.  Showcase opportunities include local county 4-H shows, community events, the Autumnal Festival, and various virtual showcases on the private Little Roots Facebook group page.

This is a FREE PROGRAM offered by Woodford County 4-H and the U of I Illinois Extension.  There is no charge for any of the seeds, plants, or associated materials.  Gardeners are expected to provide their own planting area (or containers and soil) and gardening tools.
